So you know recently how I asked if you thought I was a good Tom’s employee. And you were like: “of course”. Well anyways, today I was working at a softball game, and this woman came up to me and was like: “do ya’ll take Apple Pay?”. Which we do. And then she goes: “that’s great! But I don’t know what I want.”
A couple months ago, I really didn’t know what this meant. Cause sometimes people ask that and they don’t know what they can order, like how to make a combination. And then other times they would mean like I know what I want to order, but I want to talk. Or they just would legitimately would not know what they wanted.
But now, I’m much more knowledgeable of what people mean when they ask that question, or at the very least know how to politely figure out what they mean.
So anyways, back to the woman. She didn’t know what she wanted, so I said, do you want something hot or iced? She wanted it hot. And so I asked if she wanted coffee in it, which she didn’t know. So I explained that the three most popular hot drinks are hot chocolate, lattes, and spiced chais. She liked the sound of the spiced chai, and then I was like: “We also have a Dirty Chai, which is spiced chai but with a shot of espresso.” She LOVED that idea. And said: “Thank you so much for helping me figure out what I wanted”
And I laughed and said: “Of course, I’m glad I could, because a few months ago people would say: I don’t know what I want, and I would be like: I don’t know either!”
That made her laugh and she said: “that’s really funny”
This whole interaction made me realize I actually have grown as a Tom’ employee, and am great both on the worker side and the customer service side. It was a really nice way to start the morning.
